Week of June 24

There's been too much discussion about balance in life. That's not to say that one shouldn't set priorities; but the thing that really makes life very exciting, that allows one to leave a mark is to have been really excessive or somehow out of the ordinary about at least one aspect of what one does or is.

Week of June 10

Kurt Cobain really reached me. It wasn't so much what he said, but his music and the way he played guitar ... from a musician's standpoint, he found a way to make the sounds transparent in the way he played. I thought it was bold and new - especially since I've spent a lot of time as a recording engineer. It was a remarkable sound.

No mystery why guitar is the instrument of rock 'n' roll: it's polyphonic, it's portable and it's fun to play. It's perfect.
